I’m Jana! The first thing you must know about me…I ♡ FOOD. I have been in an apron in the kitchen with my momma since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

I’m so pleased that you’ve stopped by! I started Pickled Barrel and wasn’t even sure what the blog was going to be about at the time. One thing that I knew for sure was that I wanted a place to store all of my recipes. Before I knew my relatives were offering to give me their recipes for the blog and I was writing my first Cookbook. I began working full-time on the blog and that’s when the journey began.

Some of our passions include a beautiful, prosperous home, and life and helping others to do the same! On the blog, those passions manifest themselves in blogging posts about cooking and baking simple, easy recipes and in easy to follow instructions. Ever since blogging has allowed me to work from home, spend time with my family, we want to give back by sharing what we are learning about online business and blogging so that our sweet friends can learn from us. We wish for you to develop your cooking skills through my successes and failures, you will be able to do this through my blog posts and tips and tricks.

Who is the girl behind the blog? Well, I can tell you six things about myself…

I am a total girly girl. God blessed me with three boys and one girl which completely surprised me because I thought I would have all girls. I even had names picked out for all of them. My daughter even turned out to be a tomboy which took all of the fun away. She wouldn’t wear dresses and turned her nose up at the sight of pink. Go figure.

All four of my children are grown now and my daughter has three little toddlers. They are just the cutest, most adorable, energetic sweethearts one could ever lay eyes on. I am such a proud Nana and I am very much in love with my grandchildren.

I worked for Chase Manhattan for many years and then retired. I wore suits to work every day, sporting my black pumps as they clicked down the hall toward the employee lounge, and picking up my morning Tall Caffe Latte from my corner Starbucks as I beat morning rush hour traffic. It was a fast pace of life and I loved every minute of it, the rushing, the sales, the deadlines, and the energy of it all. But as I look at my life now, and I see the time I have to myself to work in my home doing projects around the house, baking in the kitchen, whipping up a nice dinner for myself, leisurely going for a nice drive with absolutely no place in particular, I wouldn’t have it any other way because this is exactly where I am supposed to be.

My children are grown now with children of their own and I find myself settled down with the love of my life of nearly six years. My life is quiet and we will soon be selling our home and buying a new home and relocating  somewhere in the northern part of Michigan. We enjoy each other’s company and spend time doing little do it yourself projects, walking, shopping, and I enjoy cooking. We are looking forward to whatever life throws at us and we will take it on together as a team.

Michigan is my place of birth, however, I was raised in Central Florida. I have so many fond memories of living in Florida. My teenage year’s memories of beach parties, pool parties in my backyard, piling in my backseat and driving to Daytona Beach, and all the memories on Daytona Beach boardwalk. However, Michigan stole my heart, because it is where I raised my children. I have the best fond memories here in Michigan with my Children. Making family memories and settling down, building a home together, watching them grow into beautifully grown adults I will always treasure the most.

I am very reserved and come across as shy, but I snore like I could peel the wallpaper off of the walls. It’s True! I sometimes have to be rolled over. I Also I have two “tweaker” energy shot drinks a day. I have been doing this for the past four years. Two a day! Seriously! I will even drive in a blizzard down the street to the gas station to get them. My mom calls me “tweaker”. It is insane but I need my tweakers. Besides tweakers, I am irritatingly punctual. Sometimes I arrive one hour before it even starts to make sure I am there on time. It is just the way I am. I don’t like arriving late to anything. One more thing about myself that is quirky, I hate to repeat myself. This is something that has always bothered me. It just shows me that the other person is not listening to me. If the other person is hard of hearing, that is one thing, I totally understand, my mom is hard of hearing, but if the other person is looking at the TV while I am talking and not listening to me and says “what”, I tend to get annoyed and will not respond.

Thank you so much for popping over to my little corner of the internet! I would love to connect with you on social media, so be sure to say “hi!” to me on Twitter. Talk to you soon!
